If manipulating objects in virtual space gives you special feelings, check out Fantastic Contraption (which comes bundled with the HC Vive at launch) and Microsoft's Minecraft HoloLens demo. But assuming it does actually work, there's so much potential for all-new kinds of games and experiences here. I'm always super wary of hands-free motion controls after the whole Kinect thing I know people had great experiences with it, but my living spaces are always too dark or too small for it to work well. Software-wise, it requires Leap Motion Orion and Oculus 0.8 Runtime.

If you like the look of Blocks and have the necessary hardware, you can download it from the Leap Mption Gallery. It enables you to customise your movements to any keyboard/mouse movements you want. I've almost exclusively used the leap motion with GameWave which is an app you can download for the airspace store for 5 and one I'd highly recommend.

In Blocks, users create and interact with shapes, manipulate gravity and more in a much more subtle and accurate way than anything else I can think of. Setup is easy and downloads the latest software from the Airspace store which itself is slick and easy to use. Leap Motion tends to go under the radar, but as the company's latest demo shows, the motion control system could be a heck of a lot of fun when teamed up with VR. *Im sorry if there are some seppling mistakes and gramatical errors but its 2 am right now in my country and im typing this on my phone trying to not fall asleep.Blocks is a new VR game designed for Leap Motion, and it looks amazing. And i really think that if we can somehow combine a 3dof controller like the joycons wii mote or any other kind with the leap motion and the kinekt we can achieve an index like experience.BUT the thing is that i cant manage to make the "use joycons to emulate controllers" and "use leap motion to emulate controllers" work at the same time and i would love to see someone make this happen. I saw a thing on youtube with a guy who made a phone emulate button presses on the vive controller (like the vridge app) and also using leap motion for positional tracking.

The best and cheapest way i can imagine it would be with a kinect and Driver4Vr/SDraw's kinect vr driver (yea he also did that)

#LEAP MOTION GAMING HOW TO#

I do not know how to code myself but i wanna learn once i finnish my current job.īasically what i want to do is combine 3 things and maybe manage to get an affordable vr experience. He managed to do index trackers and now you can basically emulate any controller buttons with gestures exept the thumbsticks directions.

The only thing i know for certain is that driver leap is still being worked on by a completely different person who goes by SDraw. ^ Just a link to VBB, it doesn't support leap motion at all but if leap motion could be used to interact with it it would open up a log of possibilities for dynamic cockpit setups.

^ this one seems to take a more direct approach at emulating controllers entirely with leap but also does away completely with the vr hand model

^ this one seems to do the basic overlay I imagined, but doesn't appear to be compiled for use and lacks any input functionality As far as I understand, the capabilities are there and likely not terribly hard for someone with dev experience to implement. I'm more than willing to lend a hand with testing though. My area of expertise lands more in the way of 3d modeling and rapid prototyping and not coding so it doesn't seem to be something I can personally tackle, but I figured i'd toss the idea out there and see if someone is interested in trying there hand at it. I found a few projects that almost do what I imagine but are long since abandoned. Ideally it would be best if the overlay used the leap motion tracking skeleton but could incorporate a more immersion friendly hand model overlaid or something so you don't have spooky scary skeleton limbs. It would be really cool if some input could be added by allowing for example a point gesture to interact with virtual button box buttons and/or gestures linked to keyboard inputs that way it would be a functional overlay for any sim game vs purely a hand viewer. Primarily I see its use in flight sim games where your generally using a hotas and vr controller use is hindered but still want to be able to make hand motions (or limited input) largely for the purpose of immersion or RP. The leap motion with Orion beta is pretty old now, buts its also cheap and provides some pretty respectable hand tracking. The concept is simple and frequently asked for, but the idea is just a way to overlay your hands and arms into vr for games that don't use tracked controllers.
